A top National Hunt jockey will be sharing tips with South Yorkshire punters ahead of one of the most prestigious racedays in the UK sporting calendar.

Andrew Thornton, who has won almost 1,000 races in a career spanning more than 25 years, will take part in Doncaster Racecourse’s Cheltenham Preview Evening on Thursday, March 10 alongside racing pundits Michael Shinners from Sky Bet, Tom O’Ryan from Racing UK and Martin Dixon from Racing UK and Timeform.

Hosted by Sportinglife.com editor Dave Ord, the special event will give racing fans the chance to hear from experts about some of the contenders taking part in next month’s Cheltenham Festival, which takes place this year on March 15-18.

Mr Thornton and the pundits will assess the chances of the leading contenders in the feature races of the Prestbury Park showpiece, which is widely considered to be a key milestone in the national jump season. The event follows hot on the heels of Town Moor’s final jumps meeting of the season, the BetBright Festival featuring the famous Grimthorpe Chase on March 4-5.

Kieran Gallagher, executive director of Doncaster Racecourse, said: “The Cheltenham Festival is traditionally a popular fixture on the National Hunt calendar. It attracts a huge amount of interest from horseracing fans across the UK.

“Anticipation is already building ahead of this year’s festival so we’re expecting our preview evening to be extremely well attended. It will give racing enthusiasts an ideal opportunity to pick up some top tips from popular jockey Andrew Thornton and our panel of esteemed racing pundits.”

The Cheltenham Preview Evening starts at 7.30pm on Thursday, March 10. Tickets are priced at £10 per person, including a pie and pea supper.
