Racegoers in Doncaster were greeted by a local war veteran May as he launched an upcoming charity evening.
Ben Parkinson, MBE, was at Doncaster Racecourse to fundraise and to launch its first ever ‘Tribute to the Boys’ charity race-night being held on Thursday 23 July at Town Moor.
War veterans Simon Weston and Simon Brown will be co-hosting the evening alongside Parkinson in a charity extravaganza to raise awareness and money for their three chosen veteran charities.
Parkinson, 30 and from Doncaster, is Britain’s most injured surviving soldier after the Land Rover he was travelling in hit a mine in Afghanistan eight years ago. The former paratrooper was at the race day to meet guests and to tell them about the upcoming charity event which will raise money for his chosen charity Pilgrim Bandits, of which Parkinson is a patron. The charity supports service men and women that have been injured during action.
Falkland’s War Veteran, Simon Weston, OBE will also be attending the evening to raise money for the Falklands Veteran’s foundation of which he is the patron. The charity was the first in the UK to support Falkland veterans and their immediate family.
The third veteran to host the event is soldier Simon Brown who was injured in 2006 when repairing an army vehicle that was under attack in Iraq. He will be raising money on the evening for Blind Veterans UK which is dedicated to helping war veterans who have lost their sight.
Guests attending ‘Tribute to the Boys’ have the option to purchase two different ticket packages. The Heroes Package, available at £99, includes a champagne reception followed by a delicious three-course meal alongside the veterans as well as thought-provoking after dinner speeches. The evening will finish with an exclusive charity auction to give guests the chance to win some incredible prizes whilst raising money for the charities.
